Art is experienced as a form of spiritual practice. It aims to express a deeper understanding of life and its conceptualization. I, myself, use monolithic human figures exempted from all contemporary elements. My purpose is to reach an ancient archetypal truth one only can find if one is ready to accept it. The use of natural resources (coal, fire, paper, etc.) is an essential factor in the process of creation in order to be able to connect with nature on a natural and spiritual level. This connection to nature helps me remain away from the use of modern, chemical – made material and also offers me a clear perspective of the natural norms. The transformation of raw materials into an art work produces different images every time and reveals new ways of transforming base substance. During the creative process I try to control fire – a wild and unstable element – on the paper – a sensitive material. This often gives me the sense that I walk the line between creation and destruction since fire can cause the paper to turn into ashes in an instant. In the end, when I have managed to bring both materials together and unify them I feel that the picture has been completed. Just like alchemists transmuted lead into gold, in the same way I try to transform myself spiritually through creativity into something luminous.
